Northchurch Common Collection
Northchurch Common is located near Berkhamstead in Hertfordshire. It was a stone's throw away from my house, yet I never went there until the 2020 lockdown. During my daily lockdown walk I really discovered nature and how important it is for us. I felt that the nature I discovered on these walks, particularly the trees, infused my being and inspired me. In the quiet and stillness that we experienced during the lockdown the beauty of the woods came through.
Out of this experience I made a series of paintings, gathering rubbings from tree trunks and marks from the woods along with numerous photographs and videos capturing sunlight, stillness and the peace and quiet of that time. This hugely enjoyable experience inspired a move to the country after lockdown, to continue to be in connection with that stillness and silence.
